Annual Report
Basics of the Belgrade Stock Exchange annual report for 2010th come out from the political and economic environment in Serbia in analysed year, which was certainly somewhat conditioned by the global world situation.
Unfortunately, start of this year report, begins with the ascertainment of difficult business conditions caused by, and still under, strong influence of the global crisis, that had, the same as a in previous years, made business and global business environment. Also, certainty that Belgrade Stock Exchange should represent respectable institution of regional significance was still key stimulus to the efforts of the management and employees of this institution for putting into practice what was planned.
Belgrade Stock Exchange had, according to the needs and absorptive power of the market, intended to improve its business image. Activities directed to modernization, setting contemporary, standard and safe business conditions that are improving the field of investors protection, corporative management, transparency and fair price discovery, as well as dissemination of information's to final users in reported year, were basics of business-technological planned and implemented goals of the Belgrade Stock Exchange. Development of BELEXFIX system, with an emphasis on increasing the capacity of acceptance and implementation of large number of trade orders induced by first trades of shares of the Serbian privatized public enterprises with multibillion shareholding structure, improving functions of market makers, appropriate changes in the regulation procedures and rules of the Belgrade Stock Exchange, so as promotion of the Belgrade Stock Exchange and quoted companies were the core activities of Belgrade Stock Exchange in prevous year.
2010 year marks the international activities of the Republic of Serbia, largely focused on meeting the conditions for joining the European Union.
The most important economic and political events of domestic and international scene that created business environment in 2010th were:
- Continuation of the world financial crisis and economic recession which led to an increasing budget deficit, indebtedness of countries under unfavorable conditions, rising of unemployment, investment activity decline, rising of inflation, but also estimation that crisis and its consequences will shake Serbian economy in 2011;
- Continuation of an economy decline in many sectors, caused by general decline in consumption;
- Postponement of public enterprises privatization by initial public offering;
- 15% free partition of shares of NIS to Serbian citizens and inclusion of this company to the Prime market of Belgrade Stock Exchange;
- Significant fluctuations of the local currency in 2010.
