Belgrade Stock Exchange Today

Belgrade Stock Exchange is today organized as a joint stock company (not a public company). In addition to the Republic of Serbia, shareholder structure consists of investment companies, banks, insurance companies, other legal entities and individuals.

Today, 120 years after its founding, despite a turbulent history and many storms, Belgrade Stock Exchange is a modern institution that operates on modern principles of management and trading, using the latest achievements in the field of applied information technology. The continuous and remote trading were introduced, international cooperation with other developed markets and markets in the region has been intensified. The first index of the Belgrade Stock Exchange BELEXfm was released in late 2004, and since has continued with the development of other stock market indicators. Stock Exchange is continuously working on improving the transparency of trading and disclosure. No less attention is paid to the process of continuing education of the general public, through the organization of numerous seminars and classrooms.

Significant efforts have been focused on improving cooperation with the issuers of securities, which in April 2007 led to the first listing of shares.

As of 2002 the Belgrade Stock Exchange regularly organizes an annual gathering of renowned experts and representatives of local, regional and global investment community. It is an event that goes beyond the boundaries of the local capital market and which is recognized by experts as the leading event of this kind in this part of Europe. Several thousand participants from over 30 countries have had the opportunity to discuss current topics in the field of finance and stock market operations, new trends and tendencies in the development of new market instruments and technologies. JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, World Bank, IFC, OECD, USAID, NYSE Euronext, OMX, FINNRA, US SEC, Deutsche Borse, Wiener Borse, Warsaw SE, WOOD & Company, Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg are just some of the participants. An integral part of the annual conference is the investor conference, which puts the focus of the global investing community to our region by organizing individual meetings of top management representatives from leading companies in the SEE region and key global institutional investors.

BELEXFIX information system was launched in the first half of 2008, based on the FIX protocol for the stock sxchange communication that is applied by the world's leading stock exchanges. BELEX FIX API module was introduced at the beginning of 2010, which enabled members of the Exchange to use their own applications for trading.

First prize for the best IR was awarded in 2010, with the intention to improve relationship between the issuers and investors and contribute to the transparency of the domestic companies operations.

Activities on improvement and development of the Exchange has continued in all areas of the business, after many years still inspired by the still binding words of is first President Dimitrije Stamenković: “Gentlemen, we really have to be proud of the fact that we are founders of an institution such as the stock exchange, which is the first and only one in the history of Serbia. We must be proud even more, as the creation of such an institution shows that we are following the path, cultural and economic, that other more educated people already follow a long time ... ”
